Technologically Assisted Mindfulness Meditation for Older Adults

Mindfulness meditation is an activity that is difficult to learn and carries a variety of benefits for older adults, including improvements in cognitive functions which are involved in activities of daily living. Given age-related cognitive changes, it is likely that it is even more difficult for older adults. My project involves investigating technologies to assist older adults in learning mindfulness meditation. In particular we are looking at using neurofeedback and brain-computer interfaces to give feedback to older adults about relevant parts of meditation practice in order to help them deal with mind wandering and difficulties understanding in a first-person way the kinds of meditative states involved.
