Communication and Social Support for Individuals with Aphasia

In collaboration with Dr. Alexandra Carling-Rowland, Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, and Sunnybrook Hospital this case study investigates the use of MyVoice as a mobile application to support communication, participation and confidence of individuals with Aphasia.

Aphasia is a language disorder that results from some damage or traumatic incident to the brain. It can affect speech output and or comprehension of language. For this case study users are asked to utilize MyVoice in various places they frequent on a regular basis. Baseline assessments about communication, confidence, participation in social relationships and settings and quality of life will be used to determine areas where mobile technology may be helpful. Family and friends are also encouraged to participate and provide support in customizing the mobile application.
